True Love: A Practice for Awakening the Heart Reviews
This book seems to expand on one of the most important chapters written in Tich Naht Hahn's book 'The Art of Communicating.' True Love is defined in this little book and then the Teacher provides step by step instructions on how to turn yourself and your life into a Masterpiece and helps you understand how important you are. He encourages you to connect with yourself so you can share your compassion and love with the world.
This was purchased for my yoga course. I was not expecting much, just chose it for the length. What I found was another story: things that are taken for granted were explained. I came out with a new perspective on relationships and on life in general. Highly recommend for cancer patients/survivors.
I purchased the 2 disc audiobook and am completely entranced. I am putting actions and principles into practice right away. It is the most truthful, simple, to the heart teaching on interpersonal love to which I have ever been exposed. I am very grateful - for the teachings, and more so for all the love around me that I receive and can give even better now. It shows the way for fixing messed up relationships where there is true mutual love - taking that big leap of letting the other know that you are suffering and asking him to help. It amazes me that a monk knows so much about ordinary people and can help us. I revere Thich Nhat Hanh and the faith and practice which inspire him.
I have my Spiritual Director to thank for introducing me to Buddhist Monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. He is revitalizing the way I view my life, my exchanges and the way I conduct myself in general. TRUE LOVE: A PRACTICE FOR AWAKENING THE HEART is a wonderful example of Hanh's sensitive treatment of the human experience and how each relationship can (and should) be sacred. For me, this includes the day-to-day exchanges, as well more intimate (maybe even romantic) ones. I am grateful for this beautiful piece - a quick read, indeed, at only 104 pages. It goes very fast, trust me on this! He starts out by giving insight into the four aspects of love in Buddhist practice (maitri, karuna, mudita and upeksha). I do not want to "give away the plot," and the purpose of this review is to get you to buy this for yourself (at such a reasonable price, at that!), so I will only say that he gives the reader insight on a more holistic approach to harmony and good living with others.
This book helped guide through a difficult time in my life where I transitioned from a 26 year marriage to a new life that included new relationships and the desire to find and and settle into the long term forever partner.
